Charlie stink’ng Brown

Yes, this is our new family member, Charlie Brown. We got him from the Humane Society last month. They judged his teeth and said that he is about 1.5 or 2 years old. Sometimes, he is quite mature that we think he is 2, but other time we think he is still a puppy. So his age is still a mystery. Charlie is such a good doggy and we are so happy to have him here with us. Here are some facts about our little Charlie:

  • He knows commands like “sit”, “lay down”, and “give me paw”. I got so happy the first week that he actually listened to me.

  • I think he is a pretty handsome dog although people mentioned that he is quite skinny.
  • For some reason, he always jump on us when we sit on the couch. This could be quite annoying.

  • He is pretty lucky since he is the first dog that I ever clean up after for. For security, I used 3 plastic bags the first time lol
  • He loves following us around the house, every single step.

  • He loves to play ball and socialize with other dogs.
  • He is very loving, and is out of control sometimes.

  • He is really scared of car/truck. He thinks we are going to take him back or something.
  • Whenever he got scared or stressed, there are white stuffs coming out of his skin (look like dandruff)
  • His fart is really really stink, even beat Wes’.

Strawberries Field

"Right now I just want to chill for a while.
Take a hiatus from all the craziness. To clean my house, see my family.
Just see some movies and pick some strawberries."

Test Kitchen: Fruit Tarts

I have never made tart before and I haven’t eaten them a whole lot either. However, whole food got me hooked on their delicious apple tart. They sell them for relatively expensive price so I can’t really get them often. I remember one time after studying 14 hours a day for 1 week straight for my accounting midterm (I’m telling ya, accounting midterm is no joke lol), I splurged myself one apple tart from whole food. It made my day. But then I thought I can make these, can’t I? I had no idea how to make neither pastry crust nor pastry cream so I did a bit of research. I came across this website with the recipe I wanted, AND they even have video for me to watch–> I did’t have to spend money on “Baking for dummies” book now. What’s up!!!

FYI: Stephanie, who shows us the recipe, learned how to make this tart from Le Cordon Bleu, it got to be good folks.

I consider this is my stepping stone for making “that” lovely apple tart. What out! I’m going to make it very soon.

Too Beautiful to be Edible

Picked up some edible flowers from Suzie’s farm, one of my favorite place to get produce. Check out their website, full of amazing information about food. I can’t wait to visit the farm in person sometimes since they offer tour the second Saturday of every month.

Recipe: Italian sausages+Eggplants Stuffed Tomatoes

Stuffed tomatoes, there are two versions of this recipe that I like: the Vietnamese version is filled with seasoned ground pork and is fried on a medium heated skillet that my mom used to make. This is the Italian version of that similar concept. It’s easy, quick, healthy, and good looking so all my criteria is met for a plate of awesomeness. I usually eat them with slices of French bread. You know me, I love bread.

Ingredients: 6 med ripe tomatoes, 1 small eggplant, 1 Italian sausage, basil, balsamic reduction to drizzle on top.

1. With a paring knife, cut a small circle on top of the tomatoes and pull it out. Then use a small spoon to scoop out the seeds inside. Drain them upside down.

2. Cut the eggplant into cube and turn the oven on at 375F

3. Heat olive oil on a skillet then add the inside meat of Italian sausage to cook until done (about 4-5 min). Add the eggplant and sauté for 5 more min with a little salt.

5. Stuff the tomatoes with the eggplant and sausage. Put them into the hot oven to cook for another 15-17 min.

6. Serve with basil leaves, balsamic reduction (you can either buy this or heat up balsamic vinaigrette until thick), and mozzarella cheese if you have it.

Tulu Textiles

Beautifully designed textiles and bedding by Tulu. I like them very much. Hopefully, my own bed will look like this one day. Of course when it’s not messy ;) .

Test Kitchen: Cinnamon Raisin Bread

I tried this recipe from this vegan food blog I really like (I’m not vegan but her recipes are always delicious). It turns out to be very soft in the inside, but not too sweet, really really good for toasts in the next few mornings with a cup of hot green tea.

Happy cooking :)

Happy 4th of July

More about this fruit tart I made later.

Happy holiday for now.
